Habitat Loss and Fragmentation
The African savannah elephant’s natural habitat is grasslands . These areas of grass and grass like plants are very fragile areas as water is scarce therefore bush fires are needed for renewal of the plants. These areas are also prone to human development therefore more and more of the elephant’s habitat is being destroyed or fragmented by roads and buildings or bush fires. Many years ago before humans dominated most areas, the elephants had more areas to cover and search for food. However, their habitat is forever changing and becoming smaller due to humans talking more land for development

Climate Change
Another change that is affecting the habitat over a long period of time is climate change . Due to the overall temperature increasing it has made it very hard for the plants and grasses in the habitat to grow therefore there is a decline for food in these areas. Also due to warmer weathers, water sources are drying up making it harder for the elephants to find crucial water points for bathing and drinking. Sometime elephants will use their tusks to dig to find water sources in the ground but due to having to dig deeper, they can injure themselves by breaking their tusks.
